What’s the benefit of composting with Groundcycle?

Not only is it better for the planet, but you’ll also be building sustainable habits for you and your team. We report back on every pound you divert so you’ll always know how much of a difference it makes! Also, unlike a traditional waste hauler we are completely transparent about where your food scraps go. We work directly with our farm partners to make sure our compost is processed into soil, not bioslurry.

Nowadays, everyone cares about sustainability (as they should) and being part of Groundcycle shows your commitment!

How much does it cost?

For offices: Pickups start at $30 for 1 bin weekly, each additional bin is $10 extra.

For food businesses:
Pickups start at $15 for a weekly pickup, each additional bin is $5 extra.

For florists: We recommend storing your scraps in 30 gal lawn bags. Each lawn bag costs $40 for pickup and processing.

Any other perks of being a Groundcycler?

Join our network of businesses who care! We care about your success and frequently promote your business to our audience.

We also love collaborating with you to create sustainability activations or visiting your team for a lunch-and-learn. We invite all members to our annual farm tour so you can see where all the magic happens.

When you compost with us, we can also help you donate any surplus food for free. To date, we’ve donated over 40,000 lbs of food to community fridges!

Can Groundcycle fit my needs for composting?

Absolutely! We offer customized solutions for every type of business. Fill out our form or email us at thedirt@groundcycle.org and we’ll figure out the perfect arrangement for your company.

How many bins will I need?

As a rough guideline: offices typically use 2-5 bins per week, cafes use 3-6 bins, restaurants use 10 or more.

At the start of the program, we’re happy to provide a few extra bins to make sure you’re not overflowing. It only takes a week or two to figure out what your usual cadence will be and it should be smooth-sailing from there!

How often is pickup?

As frequent as you need it to be! We can come once a week (most popular option), twice a week, every other week, or as needed.

It’ll depend on how much organic waste you generate and how much space you have to store it.

Do you provide training?

Yes, we’re happy to be as hands on as possible to make sure the program is successful! We can come in for a lunch and learn, walkthrough with kitchen staff, or any other ideas you might have. Additionally, we’ll provide signage for you to put up.

Where do I put my bins?

Our bins are compact and stack easily in any space—whether empty or full. We recommend putting bins in areas where prep is being done so it’s easy to separate the organics.

Another benefit of our bins is that they are airtight and easy to move, so you can store full bins pretty much anywhere: a walk-in freezer, pantry, closet or any corner of the room.

How does pickup work?

For offices: We’ll come directly into your office to swap out your full bins with clean ones. No need for you to lift a finger!

For food businesses: Keep your bins where you store them—we’ll come into your space during regular business hours to do the swap. We’ll pick up full bins and drop off clean ones for you!

For florists: We’re happy to access your studio without you being there if you provide us with the code or key to get in. Just make sure we can have elevator access if it’s above the ground floor. Or on pickup day, you can leave it outside on the curb and label it ‘For Groundcycle to pickup.’ We also offer event breakdowns so make sure to check out our event services!

How does the process work?

Fill out our form so we can learn a bit more about you! If you’re ready to get started, we’ll set up a user account for your business. You’ll be asked to log in to confirm your account—if you do so by midnight on Wednesday, we can get you started on the same week!

If you want to discuss further, we can schedule a phone call, video chat or even a site walkthrough to go over all remaining details.
